Finance Support Officer - Penrith

Temporary for 8 weeks, possibly longer

£17.83 per hour

Full or Part time hours available – with flexible days/start times

We are looking for a dedicated Finance Support Officer to join our clients' team in Penrith. Working closely with the Head of Finance, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering efficient financial and payroll support across the business.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Complete financial returns for companies house
  • Support the ordering, coding, and authorisation of goods and services, and review and reconcile ledger accounts.
  • Oversee bank reconciliation and manage funds to maintain control and scheme limits.
  • Input data onto the finance system, process payments, and liaise with other managers within the business regarding any difficulties.
  • Operate financial systems and process journals for various accounting needs.
  • Liaise with managers to maintain the Asset Register and gather information for year-end preparation.
  • Engage with external auditors and support the provision of financial accounts and documentation.
  • Coordinate VAT reimbursement claims, manage grants, and update the Finance Manual with new procedures.
  • Prepare and monitor contracts, tenders, funding bids, and agreements.
  • Ensure records are stored and archived properly, providing a suitable audit trail.
  • Manage capital project forms and provide general administration support as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • NVQ qualification or equivalent in Administration, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of finance and administration experience.
  • Experience in managing budgets, invoice and ordering procedures, banking, and coding.
  • Understanding of best value principles, tendering processes, VAT, and audit compliance.
  • Data Protection knowledge and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • IT literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and specific finance packages.
  • Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines on multiple projects.

Desirable:

  • Accountancy qualifications such as Accounts Technician or Foundation degree.
  • Experience in Line Management.
