Credit Controller

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist with cash collection related to the organisation's debtor books.
  2. Review and segment the student debtor ledger to identify opportunities for releasing cash, including liaising with relevant parties to review debts and engage with students.
  3. Help students with fee-related queries and process any necessary changes of circumstance.
  4. Negotiate payment schedules and encourage early settlement of outstanding debts.
  5. Provide a welcoming, responsive, and professional service to all customers, ensuring high-quality customer service.
  6. Collaborate with the Accounts Receivable Team to improve services and administrative processes.
  7. Ensure all tasks comply with current legislation and organisational policies, maintaining confidentiality as required.
  8. Document policies and procedures for best practice credit control.
  9. Perform additional duties as reasonably required by senior team members.

Education and Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills

  • Essential:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to learn new administrative systems.

  • Numeracy skills to manage financial queries, check financial information, and accurately input data.

  • Ability to interpret guidance materials and update standard documents.

  • Proactive and flexible team player, contributing to service development and customer satisfaction.

  • Desirable: Experience with university systems and databases.

Work Experience

  • Essential:

  • Experience within a credit control function.

  • Experience working effectively within a team, offering support and cover as needed.

  • Desirable: Administrative experience in higher education or customer service.

Communication Skills

  • Essential:

  • Clear, concise advice and guidance to internal and external customers, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with staff, suppliers, and stakeholders.

  • Competence in writing and completing letters, emails, and reports accurately.

  • Understanding the importance of maintaining confidentiality in accordance with data protection laws.

  • Interpersonal skills to handle diverse situations sensitively and confidently.
