Autism Base Assistant Position at Secondary School in Caerphilly

We are excited to offer a rewarding opportunity at our secondary school's Autism Base in Caerphilly. We are dedicated to providing a supportive and structured environment for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and we are looking for an individual with a passion for making a positive impact on these students' lives.

Position: Autism Base Assistant Location: Secondary School, Caerphilly Hours: Monday to Friday, Term Time Only Salary: £12.82 per hour Contract: Cover and Long-Term Positions Available Start Date: Initial post for the first term, with potential for extension and permanency from January

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to the needs of children with ASD.
  • Implement educational and behavioural support strategies in collaboration with teaching staff.
  • Facilitate communication and social skills development.
  • Assist with the creation and adaptation of learning materials to suit individual needs.
  • Monitor and report on student progress to teachers and parents.
  • Manage and respond to challenging behaviours in a calm and effective manner.

About the Children:

  • Pupils in the Autism Base may have varying levels of ASD and will require different levels of support.
  • They may exhibit challenging behaviours and will benefit from a patient, understanding approach.
  • The role involves helping these pupils develop their academic, social, and life skills in a supportive setting.

Requirements:

  • Experience in a similar role or direct knowledge of ASD is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach to supporting children with diverse needs.
  • Commitment to professional development and learning new strategies for ASD support.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
