Autism Base Assistant Position at Secondary School in Caerphilly

Position: Autism Base Assistant Location: Secondary School, Caerphilly Hours: Monday to Friday, Term Time Only Salary: £12.82 per hour Contract: Cover and Long-Term Positions Available Start Date: Initial post for the first term, with potential for extension and permanency from January
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to the needs of children with ASD.
- Implement educational and behavioural support strategies in collaboration with teaching staff.
- Facilitate communication and social skills development.
- Assist with the creation and adaptation of learning materials to suit individual needs.
- Monitor and report on student progress to teachers and parents.
- Manage and respond to challenging behaviours in a calm and effective manner.
About the Children:
- Pupils in the Autism Base may have varying levels of ASD and will require different levels of support.
- They may exhibit challenging behaviours and will benefit from a patient, understanding approach.
- The role involves helping these pupils develop their academic, social, and life skills in a supportive setting.
Requirements:
- Experience in a similar role or direct knowledge of ASD is essential.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- A proactive and adaptable approach to supporting children with diverse needs.
- Commitment to professional development and learning new strategies for ASD support.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
