Legal Adviser

Morgan Hunt are currently working with a National Regulatory Body in their search for a number of Legal Adviser (Senior Associate) to manage a broad portfolio of legal work, while navigating and managing legal risk across the organisation.

You will provide high-quality and solutions-focused legal advice across a number of Directorates, workstreams and projects, including in relation to enforcement and investigations, environmental protection and defending litigation. You will also be involved in helping policy teams develop and delivery strategically focussed and legally robust policy, as well as advising on price reviews.

The successful candidates will be a Qualified Lawyer in England and Wales (or a similar jurisdiction), with experience across Regulatory, Public and Administrative Law or Competition Law. You will ideally have experience within a Law Firm, Civil Service, In-House Utilities or Competition Law.

You will have strong experience providing solutions-focussed legal advice on the development of policy objectives, as well as applying analytical skills in a complex legislative structure.

You will be an intelligent, engaged, solutions-focused and analytical individual, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work well within a team.

Job Title: Legal Adviser (Senior Associate)

Location: Hybrid (2 days per week in London or Birmingham Office)

Annual Salary: £37,000 - £54,000

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality, timely and solutions-focussed legal advice across a number of Directorates, workstreams and projects
  • Be fully involved in helping policy teams develop and deliver strategically focussed policy which is legally robust
  • Be an adaptable thinker and incorporate wider considerations into your work, helping to identify and manage organisational risks and opportunities
  • Demonstrate good judgement and to create clarity and build trust through effective communication and collaboration
  • Proactively share skills and knowledge, and support others in the team in doing this
  • Support the organisations external relationships with law firms and legal counsel, other regulators and government

Person Specification

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister in England and Wales or at least 3 years' experience acting in a role akin to that of a qualified Solicitor or Barrister in a legal environment
  • Experience of working in a complex organisation within a regulated utility sector; in the specific areas of regulatory, public and administrative law or competition law
  • Experience of delivering solutions-focussed legal advice on the development and implementation of policy objectives and/or the implementation of strategic government projects and programmes
  • Experience of successfully applying analytical skills in a complex legislative structure within an innovative policy environment
  • Experience of successfully influencing and/or negotiating with internal and external stakeholders, including colleagues, government departments, external lawyers, counterparties, and partner organisations
  • Experience of effective and efficient planning, including prioritisation and delegation
