Hire Manager

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Hire Manager to join a well-established Engineering company based in Eastleigh on a permanent basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Hire Manager to collaborate with the Branch Manager and in order to coordinate the branch's Hire operations, working alongside the branch teams to ensure the seamless completion of customer hire requests.

Your leadership will guide the Hire team towards achieving financial and team objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and ensure the safety and security of branch assets, including staff, vehicles, property, pumps, and related equipment, while adhering to all regulatory standards and promptly addressing any incidents.
  • Maintain adherence to pricing strategies and policies to support both the business and our customer commitments.
  • Establish new customer accounts by following stringent credit control procedures and managing accounts effectively.
  • Optimise transport logistics within the hub to meet customer delivery timelines and maintain clear communication.
  • Manage and recuperate costs related to transport, damages, and losses while keeping accurate and updated reports.
  • Employ your strong communication skills to handle local and broader business-related matters, including conducting toolbox talks.
  • Ensure precise control over work hours, compliance with driving regulations, and proper use of tachographs.
  • Coordinate with the Branch Manager on all financial facets of the branch, including month-end routines and the management of debtor queries, with a clear understanding of financial reporting.
  • Lead customer interactions confidently, manage key accounts, and seize opportunities during customer engagements.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proven experience in a supervisory role within a pump/ plant machinery rental or similar business environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a busy hire/ rental desk in a fast-paced setting.
  • Experience in logistics, construction, or water utilities is a plus.
  • Proficiency in various software packages and able to learn rental systems.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams for video calls.
  • Self-driven with the capability to operate independently and proactively.
  • Exceptional planning and organisational skills, capable of adjusting priorities on short notice.
  • Skilled at multitasking and responding to inquiries from multiple stakeholders, ensuring swift and effective resolutions for both internal teams and customers.
  • Professional and positive communication skills, adept at managing relationships within the Hire and Branch teams, especially under pressure.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills, using product knowledge to drive spontaneous sales.
  • A broad understanding of various types of pumps and solutions is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • A valid UK driving license
