The Role

United Utilities are seeking a Standardisation Manager to spearhead a dynamic team, driving development and deployment of standardised assets. This pivotal role demands a visionary leader who can develop and direct a skilled standardisation team, ensuring the successful realisation of our strategic goals in the North West of England.

As Standardisation Manager, you will operate as the subject matter expert (SME) for standardisation across commercial, engineering and capital delivery (CEC). You will lead a team of multi-disciplinary principal engineers responsible for the engineering contribution across all aspects of standardisation in CEC, from conceptual thinking and ideation to embedment and business as usual. You will provide technical advice, evaluating standardisation outcomes against strategic objectives and key performance indicators, and communicating these findings to stakeholders. Moreover, the Standardisation Manager will be entrusted with the critical task of managing the allocated engineering resources, including the recruitment of top-tier talent to their own team.

In the role of Standardisation Manager, you will be instrumental in advancing our AMP8 programme. In-person site attendance in Lingley Mere, Warrington is required three days per week to promote the benefits of face-to-face collaboration, alongside some travel to other sites in the North West and flexible hours to support work-life balance. Initially, you may be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourselves with the site, the team, and your role.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead the standardisation of products within the capital delivery program, ensuring integration of data analysis, design, and documentation
  • Manage the Standardisation team, driving continuous improvement and adherence to timelines for product specifications
  • Develop strategic partnerships with supply chain entities to promote market-driven standard products and technological advancements
  • Champion the Standardisation Strategy across United Utilities, incorporating sustainability and efficiency into the process
  • Oversee communication and mentorship initiatives, celebrating successes and fostering professional development among engineers

Skills and Experience:

To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Chartered or Incorporated professional or demonstrable equivalent level of expertise
  • Detailed working knowledge and experience of standardisation, procedures and technologies
  • Experience of providing technical advice at a senior level, leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes in multidisciplinary projects and leading/managing an engineering team
  • Hold a current UK/EU driving licence
