Lab Engineer

We're supporting a deep technology venture-backed company in the South Cambridge area who are turning heads in the energy storage space.

This exclusive opportunity is for a Laboratory Engineer, to support operations as the company move into an ambitious commercial phase, with new products in development stage.

The well-equipped labs are planned to double in size very soon, so this requires an experienced and proactive, hands-on Engineer to support the daily operations. You will be kept very busy!

We're looking for someone with a strong background working with lab and equipment maintenance; someone who is capable and enthusiastic about making a difference to ensuring facilities are efficient. There will be hands-on servicing and also arranging outsourced servicing for all lab equipment.

The Role:

  • Support the Lab Manager with day-to-day management of the labs
  • Responsibility for lab waste, including liaising with waste management companies
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot equipment, including keeping detailed records
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules and protocols for all lab instruments and equipment
  • Conduct routine inspections and PPM for high-use equipment such as glove boxes and gas supplies
  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers for equipment repairs and maintenance
  • Facilitate the installation and commissioning of new equipment
  • Train and supervise the lab team on proper use and maintenance of equipment
  • Changing gas cylinders
  • Support with monitoring health and safety in the lab

About You:

  • Previous experience in a similar role, with experience of handling chemicals and gases
  • Health and Safety focused with risk assessments and COSHH experience
  • Experience with servicing and maintenance of equipment
  • Able to work within a small team, helping to train and mentor others
  • Enthusiastic about working within a growing company and excited to "get stuck in"

Hours are Mon - Fri 0800 - 1600 or 0900 - 1700 and you will be based in Sawston.
