Senior Product Inspection Engineer

Location - Gillingham, Kent

Salary - Highly Competitive DOE

We have a fantastic opportunity in Gillingham for a Senior Product Inspection Engineer to work for one of our clients.

In this role you will be working Monday - Thursday 8am-4.30pm with 30 minute lunch break. Fridays 8am-1pm with no break.

Our client is a leading global manufacturer with an exceptional reputation, specialising in advanced technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out dimensional and surface inspection according to design specifications, using microscopes, hand gauges, contact and optical measurement systems.
  • Produce detailed inspection reports and communicate technical information effectively with key stakeholders.
  • Be accountable for inspection method and measurement process development, work with product engineering and validation team to define detailed requirements.
  • Responsible for the development and validation of measurement processes and procedures.
  • Ensure EH&S and Quality Management System conformance (IATF 16949).
  • Support department targets, budget, performance metrics and quality Standards

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in the field of dimensional metrology or precision engineering is essential for this role.
  • Must hold a degree in appropriate engineering discipline or apprenticeship + 5 years' experience
  • Solid fundamental knowledge of dimensional metrology is a stringent requirement.
  • Must have an understanding of applied knowledge of measurement best practices.
  • Previous experience using manual and digital microscopes is a requirement.
  • Experience using contact and optical 3D metrology equipment (such as Zygo and Taylor Hobson surface measurement instruments).
  • Good understanding of 5S and workplace organisation.
  • Ideally, have knowledge of traceability, measurement uncertainty, gauge R&R, Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
  • Experience of writing measurement programmes (CMMs and Taylor Hobson - Talyrond) would be useful, but not essential.
  • Practical experience of metrology software, preferably Polyworks would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of dimensional metrology standards and surface finish standards would be very useful.
  • Programming skills using Matlab and VBA would be useful, but not essential.
