Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract)
Contract: 6-12 months
Rate: £35-£45 per hour (Outside IR35)
Location: North East England
We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to work on a contract basis. You will be responsible for creating 3D models, technical drawings, and design outputs to support production and operations. Your work will follow company guidelines and meet customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create mechanical designs that consider the full product lifecycle (material limits, manufacturability, etc.).
- Ensure designs comply with safety regulations and remove any health and safety risks.
- Prepare 3D models using **Autodesk Inventor** and generate 2D drawings in line with **BS 8888**.
- Work closely with analysis engineers to make sure designs align with theoretical models.
- Attend design reviews and communicate design intent to the team.
- Support continuous improvement and contribute to R&D activities.
- Provide assistance to the wider project team and liaise with customers as needed.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 3 years expereince in steel fabrication.
- Proficient in **Autodesk 3D Inventor**, **AutoCAD**, and **Autodesk Vault**.
- Strong understanding of steel manufacturing techniques and standards (e.g., **BS 8888**).
- SC clearance or the ability to obtain it.
Desirable Skills:
- Knowledge of welding techniques, door performance standards, and tolerance stacking.
- Ability to program templates using **iLogic/VB**.
