ISV Air Support Engineer

Job Title: ISV Air Support Engineer

Salary: Circa £55,000 depending on experience

Location: Stevenage

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 2-3 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

  • Act as support for the CSS Engineering Managers and Product Support Managers in support of the air weapons that are currently in service.
  • Manage and carry out engineering tasks in support of the Air Weapons in the In-Service environment to maintain weapon system safety, availability and capability. Tasks can vary from answering of simple queries to conducting investigations of faults, issues and development through to getting Customer approval of investigation completion and delivery of remedies. It is likely that there will be a need to work in the industrial units to carry out investigation activities which must be conducted in a safe and controlled manner supported by a risk assessment. This will involve working closely with the weapon design authorities.
  • Provide regular progress reports as required by Engineering and Product Support Manager/ Project Manager.
  • Take active role in meetings with the Customer and Suppliers.
  • Take part in programmes for refurbishment or replacement of equipment used in-service.
  • Interface with MBDA engineering departments, CSS Support staff and management, Procurement Management, Project Manager, Supplier technical points of contact and Customer technical points of contact.
  • Involvement in broader CSS UK activities as required.
  • There will be opportunities to support Development Programmes and UORs when required, assisting the other leads and Chief Systems Proving Engineers in meeting deadlines in challenging circumstances.

What we're looking for from you:

  • Broad engineering knowledge required gained through experience of working at missile or weapon system level either in System Design & Validation, Systems Engineering or in Mechanical / Electrical architecture. Although consideration should also be given to experience suitable experience from outside MBDA.
  • Needs to be able to address technical issues related to any part of a weapon system (including identifying use of suitable support) and understand the implications of the issue from the perspective of the user/ operator community. The candidate especially needs to be able to identify where the issue has a potential safety implication and able to take an appropriate course of action.
  • An understanding of air platform environment and constraints would be helpful.
  • Some experience of work package management or equivalent experience of scheduling of work across a team would be beneficial.
  • A good team worker is required, able to take other team roles. Needs to be comfortable in a work environment that requires involvement on multiple concurrent tasks with constantly changing priorities, pressures and timescale requirements. Also needs to be comfortable working in multiple teams including stakeholders across MBDA, the supply chain and MoD. Ability to influence others, including external stakeholders, would be desirable
