Finance Officer

We are seeking a dedicated Finance Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in budget monitoring and managing school accounting data within the Trust. This position requires a professional with a strong financial background, attention to detail, and excellent organisational skills. The Finance Officer will also deputise for the Financial Controller when necessary and ensure the Trust's financial operations are accurate and efficient.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Assist with budget monitoring and operation of accounting data.
  • Deputise for the Financial Controller as required.
  • Monitor budgets across all schools within the Trust to ensure effective use of funding and value for money.
  • Maintain accurate transactional accounts for internal scrutiny and external audits.
  • Ensure daily accuracy of the finance ledger during the academic year.
  • Oversee the processing of invoices and prepare departmental reports as directed.
  • Adhere to month-end deadlines and complete tasks as per the finance office schedule.
  • Prepare VAT monthly returns for authorisation.
  • Manage routine invoicing for school lettings and financial oversight of the Trust's charge cards.
  • Update the Fixed Asset register quarterly and maintain payroll records.
  • Monitor asset usage and make value for money recommendations.
  • Engage in skills development and continuous professional development (CPD).
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the finance leadership team.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Part Qualified or Qualified by Experience
  • Expertise in financial and budget management, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Experience with control account and bank reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of accounting procedures, financial systems, and processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and written skills.
  • Proficient IT skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working across Local Government or an Education Trust.
  • Working knowledge of SAGE finance packages.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
