Job Summary

The Finance Manager will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the company, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information. This role requires a deep understanding of the construction industry, including Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) systems, VAT returns, and proficiency in SAGE accounting software.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and present accurate financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow analysis.

  • Monitor financial performance against budget and report on variances.

  • Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making processes.

  • Accounting and Compliance:

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and General Ledger.

  • Ensure compliance with CIS regulations and manage CIS returns.

  • Prepare and submit VAT returns accurately and on time.

  • SAGE System Management:

  • Maintain and manage the SAGE accounting system, ensuring all financial transactions are recorded correctly.

  • Provide training and support to staff on SAGE system usage.

  • Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Develop, manage, and monitor annual budgets and forecasts.

  • Provide insights and recommendations based on financial data to improve company performance.

  • Financial Controls and Processes:

  • Implement and maintain robust financial controls and procedures.

  • Conduct regular reviews and audits to ensure financial integrity and compliance.

  • Liaison and Support:

  • Work closely with project managers and other departments to provide financial support and advice.

  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and other stakeholders as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field. A professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ACA) is preferred.

  • Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a finance role within the construction industry.

  • Proven experience with CIS systems and VAT returns.

  • Proficient in using SAGE accounting software.

  • Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
