Building Maintenance Surveyor

Posted by National Trust.

Summary

Would you like to work in a team leading on the maintenance of our diverse range of our let residential, holidays and commercial property in Dorset. We're looking for an individual who can bring their experience of building maintenance with a particular interest in historic buildings.

You'll be based out of our Estate office at Kingston Lacy with travel to our portfolio of properties in Purbeck and West Dorset, working with subject experts in historic buildings who can support you in developing skills in this area.

This is a supervisory role and you will not be "on the tools". With a solid working history and practical understanding of property maintenance of listed and old buildings, you will be able to diagnose problems and find solutions across the wide and varied scope of work. Use of our property system is a key part of the role, monitoring repairs as they are reported and keeping information in the system up-to-date. It is therefore important that you are confident in the use of IT.

You'll have a building surveying or housing association background, a facilities or maintenance manager or a clerk of works.

What it's like to work here

The management of our let property underpins our national rental income of £50m a year and is essential for the delivery of our land and property conservation work. The National Trust is the UK's biggest private landowning charity, has some of the UK's leading experience in the maintenance of historic buildings and you will support us with the maintenance of the properties we own and protect. The portfolio in Purbeck and West Dorset includes 80 let residential properties, a number of commercial lets and 15 holiday cottages ranging from an Art Deco mansion in Weymouth to quintessential thatched cottages in Purbeck.

If you like variety, problem solving and delivering results in a supportive and flexible work environment then this post is for you. We can provide you with lots of experience to help you on your career journey.

What you'll be doing

You'll be responsible for dealing with compliance tasks, reactive maintenance, planning and delivering programs of work. Working within a set budget, you'll ensure all our resources are used in the most efficient way.
