Graduate BREEAM Sustainability Consultant

Posted by SME Graduate Employment Ltd.

Are you the kind of person who enjoys dealing with people and organising things?

This environmental legislation consultancy is somewhere that you can feel proud to work, knowing that you're helping to make sure that buildings are designed in a way that fulfills the environmental needs for current and future generations.

They have a very good record of employing graduates, and many have gone on to successful careers with the business. Some have moved into more senior roles.

You'll learn a lot from experienced colleagues, and will quickly be given responsibility to manage your own work and time.

There is a big focus on ongoing learning and development. You'll be doing courses, and working towards professional accreditations; all the while improving your range of knowledge.

Going forward, there are other areas you can get involved in, as the business likes the team to be multi-skilled.

It's a friendly team with a mix of ages and backgrounds, and you'll feel supported while learning the job. The senior management team are accessible, and encourage ideas and discussions.

There is a fun and sociable working environment, but the team is also highly professional and technically focused.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING...

BREEAM is the World's leading assessment method for buildings; it's effectively the project management of the environmental aspects of construction. You'll be learning how to carry out these assessments. In time you'll be managing several of these projects at once.

You'll be providing sustainability related advice to clients (for example, architects, engineers, and contractors); including making recommendations where improvements can be made, so assessments will be passed.

You'll get regular progress and salary reviews (you could be on 30k in a year).

WHERE YOU'LL BE DOING IT...

The offices are based in a quirky and interesting building next to Bristol Harbour: a converted Brunel warehouse, powered by PVs.

You'll mainly be office based; though in time there will be the occasional visit to sites.

There is free-parking available. Or if you prefer more sustainable travel there is a company cycle scheme in place (and shower rooms to freshen up).

The business offers flexible, hybrid, working; so once you are trained up you should be ok to work from home for part of the time.

WHAT WILL YOU NEED...

The graduates who have done well with the business already had some knowledge of, and interest in, BREEAM. So, this is preferred (though you don't need to have used it in a job yet).

This is very much about the built environment, not the broader environmental field. So you'll need to have a definite interest in working with the building / construction side of sustainability.

In terms of degree type, something Construction, Geography, Environmental, Sustainability, Architecture, Engineering, or Project Management related, would be ideal. But others may be considered if you have some interest in BREEAM.

You'll need good time management and organisational skills; in addition to good problem solving skills.

Start date around October / November.
