Are you a creative Head of Learning and Development professional looking for a new challenge? Would you like to be part of an organisation that is committed to the safety of their community?

I am working exclusively with Kent Fire and Rescue Service on a permanent Head of Learning and Development (L&D) role where you will strategically lead a team of trainers and specialist trainers, overseeing the development and implementation of management, leadership, and personal effectiveness training across the organisation.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) is a forward-thinking, modern fire and rescue service that aims to create a safer future for Kent and Medway.

Located close to the town of Maidstone, you will be able to work for the organisation on a hybrid basis, going into the office which is a listed building 3-days per week. There is free on site parking for all staff.

The Head of Learning and Development job paying £62,424 - £68,144 will have two direct reports which includes a Senior L&D Consultant and IT Training Manager. The role collaborates with the Head of HR as a peer, and the EDI Manager as a Business Partner. The Head of Learning and Development will also be responsible for budget associated with L&D related costs.

The key responsibilities of this permanent job include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of a comprehensive L&D strategy.
  • Overseeing the creation and delivery of a core curriculum.
  • Partnering with business leaders to assess current and future training needs.
  • Developing and implementing an innovative e-learning strategy, incorporating digital tools and blended learning methodologies.
  • Managing external L&D providers to ensure high-quality and cost-effective learning solutions.
  • Building and leading a high-performing team of L&D professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Reviewing and measuring the effectiveness of learning initiatives, providing strategic insights, and reporting to senior leadership on L&D performance.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior L&D professional with In-depth knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design, and leadership development methodologies. You will need to have a strong understanding of learning technologies, LMS platforms, and digital content creation tools (e.g., Articulate, Captivate). This role plays a key role in embedding new learning initiatives with diversity and inclusion at the forefront.
