About the Role and What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone with great supervisory skills, café or bar experience, and a passion for our venue to support the Café Bar Manager at Cornerstone.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As the Café Bar Supervisor, your key responsibilities when on duty will include:

  • Working with the café manager, venue duty managers, and technicians to ensure that events run smoothly at the café bar.
  • Ensuring that the café bar and its products are well presented, while maintaining high levels of cleanliness front and back of house, adhering to food hygiene, health and safety, and licensing standards.
  • Placing orders and ensuring the rota is adequately staffed in the absence of the Café Bar Manager.
  • Supporting a profitable café bar by ensuring fast service, up-selling, and minimising wastage. Ensuring that catering requirements for hirers are met to a high standard, and handling catering bookings when the café manager is unavailable.
  • Adhering to cash handling and finance procedures and completing the relevant paperwork.
  • Ensuring the security of the café bar, including its takings, and acting as duty building manager when required.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of equipment and reporting defects promptly.

Additional Duties

  • Attending regular catering service meetings with your line manager.
  • Attending Cornerstone senior team meetings when the Café Manager is unavailable.
  • Assisting with room setups, including moving furniture.
  • Helping the venue duty manager with ushering duties if required.
  • Undertaking any other duties related to the operations team as needed.

Work Hours

  • Your contracted hours are 22 hours per week, with some evening and weekend work required.
  • You are also entitled to three extra statutory days over the Christmas and New Year period, with an additional day granted if there are four non-bank holiday working days during this period.
  • If Cornerstone is open during this time, you may be required to work according to the rota, in which case you will be re-credited with this time in accordance with the annualised hour's guidelines.

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Good standard of education or equivalent experience.
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Strong supervisory and training abilities.
  • Proficiency in IT systems, including Excel.
  • Experience in a café or bar, ideally in a supervisory role.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

  • Food preparation and service experience.
  • Level 2 in Food Hygiene or Food Safety in Catering.
  • BIIAB Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders.
