Salary - £50,000 - £65,000 depending on experience and interview performance.

Our client is a specialist flavours and fragrance company that focus on the development, manufacture and supply of flavour and fragrance ingredients. Based in Suffolk, they are an innovative company who are now looking for a hard-working and enthusiastic Senior Scientist to join their Innovation team on a full-time and permanent basis. The Role

This is a role for individuals who have extensive experience in various chemistry focused roles in industry who have a track-record of technical blue sky thinking. The position is extremely varied, working on new product development initiatives, as well as technical operations and manufacturing / analytical improvement projects. We welcome applicants from various industries to apply to this role. As a Senior New Product Development Scientist, you will be responsible for:

  • The creation of new trial blends of favours and fragrances.
  • Leading innovation projects.
  • Developing new products through effective liaising with business development teams to fully understand the needs of the customer.
  • Improving existing flavour and fragrance products.
  • Development and implementation of new technologies for flavour / fragrance products.
  • Offering technical advice on analysis of blends and flavours using GC-MS, HPLC, headspace etc.
  • Working on a range of technical projects to reduce costs and increase revenue (an example could be turning a waste stream into a new product, or introducing more efficient analytical equipment).
  • Supporting the bulking, planning and manufacturing departments.
  • Offering suggestions on scale up of flavour / fragrance blends.
  • Maintaining high safety standards whilst maintaining a clean and safe working environment and following SOPs.
  • Support continuous improvement activities within the distillation, formulation and manufacturing teams.

Skills and Experience Needed

Suitable Applicants will have:

  • A degree in chemistry, food science or biochemistry (or related sector) (essential, equivalent experience considered)
  • Experience in a similar role (ideally 5 years+, but minimum of 2 years - essential)
  • An interest in the food, flavour and fragrance industry. (essential)
  • Experience in leading chemistry focused projects relating to method development, business cost reduction (laboratory setting), new product development (essential)
  • Have an understanding of commercial and financial considerations for projects (essential)
  • Strong technical understanding of various analytical techniques including: GC-MS, GC-FID, headspace, HPLC, refractive index, optical rotation, density measurements, distillation etc (essential)
  • The ability to work individually or as part of a team. (essential)
  • A proven ability to create innovative and complete solutions to challenging problems (essential)
  • A get-up and go attitude to work, with the ability to suggest new ideas. (essential)
  • Previous experience in the flavours and fragrance industry. (desired)
