Lead SQL Database Administrator

We are seeking a Lead SQL Database Administrator with a strong background in database management systems, data modelling, and integration technologies. The successful candidate will lead a team of Database Developers, ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of our database infrastructure.

This role requires expertise in database management systems (design, implementation, maintenance, and performance optimisation), data modelling, and awareness of integration technologies to ensure the seamless flow of data across disparate systems.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Lead and mentor a team of Database Developers, promoting a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Design and implement SQL database schemas, tables, views, and stored procedures to meet business requirements.
  • Optimize SQL queries and ensure database performance, security, scalability, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design logical and physical data models and ensure data integrity.
  • Develop integration solutions to facilitate data exchange between systems.
  • Uphold data governance policies to ensure data quality and compliance with regulations like GDPR.
  • Configure high availability solutions and develop backup and recovery procedures.
  • Address performance bottlenecks and fine-tune systems for optimal throughput.
  • Manage database and integration code using version control systems and maintain thorough documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver database-related initiatives and provide effective communication.
  • Offer technical support, troubleshoot issues, and conduct root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
  • Proven experience in database administration, data engineering, and team leadership.
  • Proficiency with Azure, SQL Server, and familiarity with other database technologies.
  • Strong understanding of data modelling, ETL processes, and version control systems.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and development methodologies like Agile or Scrum.
  • Experience with data governance, security controls, and regulatory compliance.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified Database Administrator, Azure Data Engineer Associate) are desirable.
  • Demonstrable experience in leading and developing teams, setting goals, and ensuring accountability.
