We have an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled, enthusiastic support worker to join a caring and nurturing family home. This permanent position is ideally suited to someone with previous experience of caring for a child with a brain injury. Experience of working within a family home with more than one child would be an advantage.

You will work closely with a warm, welcoming family and a team of qualified therapists. You will provide care and support for a young client with a brain injury and his two siblings. You will lead on tasks relating to the care and welfare of our client and his siblings, ensuring their comfort and safety. Working within this family home is a rewarding experience where you will feel valued and contribute to the positive recovery of our client.

In your new role you will

  • Support the client and siblings with everyday tasks such as homework, educational play etc
  • Facilitate and support the children in decision making; promoting choice and independence
  • Assist the client with personal care tasks as necessary whilst maintaining privacy and dignity
  • Implement care plans and strategies to assist our client to communicate, manage his emotions and behaviour
  • Provide encouragement, reassurance, and guidance appropriately to all 3 siblings
  • Observe sibling dynamics and promote a harmonious home environment
  • Communicate and work with parents, therapy teams and other professionals where necessary
  • Keep accurate records
  • Drive our client and siblings to and from school and to community locations as requested by parents
  • Assist the children with bedtime routines and to maintain a healthy sleep routine.

Person Specification

  • Previous experience of caring for children with brain injury
  • Experience of working in family environments with more than one child
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Reliable and trustworthy
  • Ability to use initiative and apply creative solutions in an environment that can sometimes present multiple challenges
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality and the need to follow policy and procedures
  • Experience in promoting positive behavior
  • Ability to build positive trusting relationship with the client and family
  • Working as part of a wider team liaising with parents, case manager and where appropriate other professionals
  • Basic knowledge of information technology, ability to use word, read/send emails, take part in remote meetings
  • Good levels of Maths and English
  • Basic cooking skills
  • Full clean driving license and access to own vehicle
  • Non smoker
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to take direction from a team of qualified therapists
