Payroll & Compliance Manager

My client is a very exciting business who are growing in the UK and Ireland but now also have started to have a strong presence in the USA.

As Payroll & Compliance Manager, you will play a key supporting role across their Finance and People teams. Reporting into the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for defining and managing the payroll process across both head office and stores. You will use your expertise to advise and guide employees on all payroll matters.

The Role:

  • Manage the monthly payroll processing across all payrolls; hourly, salaried & Republic of Ireland (c. 850 employees in total)
  • Drive operational best practice to ensure deadlines are met with the third party payroll provider
  • Raise risks, issues and discrepancies in good time and work to find resolutions
  • Remain up-to-date on all relevant legislation, suggesting changes to processes where appropriate
  • Define and implement checks for the payroll calculations to ensure there is an accurate output from the third party payroll provider
  • Ensure accurate and timely submissions to HMRC
  • Monthly pension reporting
  • SMP & SSP recording
  • Ensure compliance with monthly HMRC obligations and annual requirements such as P11d's and PSA submissions
  • Be the key point of contact for the Group internal audit team and the external audit team, assisting them with queries
  • Manage the reconciliation of key payroll data - between payroll, benefits and third parties, including HMRC and Rewards and Benefits providers
  • Work alongside the People Team to administer and manage the various pension schemes for the business •
  • Oversee the administration for Company benefits schemes e.g. Cycle to Work
  • Manage Gender pay gap reporting and support preparation for any future developments in pay gap reporting •
  • Maintain a customer service focus, able to understand the requirements of the role across the team/s and adding value
  • Deliver accurate reconciliation and data analysis to support reporting, decision-making and providing relevant insights for all key teams and stakeholders
  • Supporting ad-hoc project activity both within your own area of expertise and beyond

Experience needed

  • You are an experienced and knowledgeable Payroll professional, with expertise in process and legislation around pay
  • You have brilliant attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in your work
  • You have strong knowledge of PAYE and understanding of HMRC benefits
  • You are an advanced Excel user
  • You have experience of working with 3rd party payroll providers (they work with ADP), pension providers and external reward firms i.e., BUPA
  • You are resilient, adaptable and can effectively navigate through both anticipated and unexpected changes
  • You are great at communicating, relationship-building and managing expectations
  • You have previous experience working in a retail-focused business

This position is a hybrid role, working 2 days in the office (one of those days being a Tuesday), 3 days working from home.
