We are in search of a highly skilled and experienced Quality Manager to spearhead our esteemed client's quality assurance efforts within their food manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have a robust technical background in quality management and an extensive understanding of retailer codes of practice.
The Quality Manager should also be prepared to travel to various sites within the business as required. This position presents an opportunity to lead a dynamic team and promote ongoing enhancement of quality standards throughout the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality management systems in compliance with food safety standards and retailer requirements.
  • Oversee site technical and quality management to ensure operational excellence.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with HACCP principles.
  • Managing key interactions with customers and outside agencies / suppliers - particularly with respect to the effective receipt, logging, investigation, root cause analysis, reporting and trending of incoming customer complaints, defect reports, non-conformances.
  • Support and proactively drive continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Ensuring strict adherence to food safety culture and hygiene standards are implemented, maintained and adhered to.
  • Responsible for planning, coordinating and controlling all activities and staff within the Quality team to enable the business to achieve the right quality product at the right time in line with food quality and safety systems.
  • Fulfil continuous improvement projects to reduce costs, improve efficiencies and streamline processes and procedures.
  • Improve labour effectiveness of the Quality team.
  • Managing the Quality budget for the site.
  • Maintaining the operational performance of all Quality systems and procedures whilst ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Meeting Quality department KPI's and reporting these to the rest of the site management team.
  • Manage and motivate all team members and ensure they are supported and work in partnership to deliver Quality KPIs that contribute to business KPI's.
  • Ensure that measuring equipment is maintained and calibrated to industry standards.
  • Taking the lead for Quality sections in audits.
  • Train and mentor staff on quality standards and practices.
  • Prepare and present quality reports to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Be a key member of the Food Safety, HACCP, TACCP and VACCP team.
  • Work with the technical manager in implementing and maintaining Hygiene schedules, liaising with Hygiene suppliers, and ensuring that hygiene equipment and cleaning equipment are stocked.
  • Champion industry best practices and promote the introduction of new technologies, where applicable.
  • Develop and implement Health and safety risk assessments for Quality activities in conjunction with the site Leader / HR lead.
  • Flexible approach to working hours. On-call duties to resolve any issues out of hours.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience in quality management within food manufacturing operations.
  • Technical and quality experience gained in a UK retailer customer-facing role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of retailer codes of practice.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Degree level qualification in science or food technology (or equivalent experience).
  • Level 3-4 HACCP
  • TACCP & VACCP qualifications
  • Train the Trainer
