Assistant Accountant

Accountancy Recruit is partnering with a growing customer centric business for event, conference and exhibition creation within the UK and Europe, in the recruitment of an aspiring Assistant Accountant, based in Chelmsford, Essex.

The purpose of the role is to maintain financial records with precision, including purchases, sales, receipts and payments; reporting to the CEO this role will grow with the business and facilitate the development of your career in line with professional studies. You will join a collaborative team, passionate about contributing to the overall success of the business: there will be travel opportunities to UK and European events: experiencing genuine team spirit.

This is a progressive role, office based, that offers study support and professional development.

Day to day duties of the role:

  • Maintain and update financial records.
  • Manage financial transactions using Xero software.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices and payments.
  • Reconciling bank statements and bookkeeping ledgers.
  • Chasing suppliers for bills.
  • Processing credit card payments.
  • Management of expenses.
  • Completing VAT returns.
  • Posting debits and credits – month end trail balance.
  • Reconciling accounts.
  • Prepare financial reports daily, weekly and monthly: ensure compliance with organisational financial policies.
  • Chase outstanding debtors by telephone.
  • Manage accounts receivable, raising invoices.
  • Assisting with budget preparation and year end audits.
  • Answer phone calls and respond to emails professionally.
  • Assist in organising and attending events in the UK and abroad.
  • Correspond with and maintain positive relationships with suppliers and customers, delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Maintaining an orderly accounting filing system.
  • Providing administrative support as needed.
  • Travelling within the UK and to Europe for company events. (approx. 21 days per year).

Requirements and Skills

  • AAT level 3, interested in studying CIMA or Part Qualified.
  • Advanced experience using Xero accounting software, proficient MS Office and a keen interest in systems development.
  • Proven bookkeeping experience including a strong understanding of payable/receivable principles.
  • Naturally curious / analytically and figures orientated.
  • Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records.
  • Data entry skills along with a knack for numbers.
  • Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and proprietary software.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

Remuneration

Salary: £36 – 48,000 pa

Hours: Full Time: Monday to Friday. 8.30 am to 5.00 pm.
