Infrastructure Hosting Systems Engineer

We are Systematix and we are currently looking for an Infrastructure Engineer "Cloud Hosting and Automation Engineer" with strong hands-on skills with Cloud (Azure and AWS) and On-prem servers, to help manage our client's cloud hosting infrastructure to meet the need of corporate and emerging digital applications. This role is on-site in Portsmouth (Harbourgate), England. ABOUT THE PROJECT:
Our client is a global leader in science and technology, providing a breadth of expertise and solutions to customers worldwide. Working as Cloud Hosting and Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for managing the cloud hosting infrastructure and maintaining on-premises servers running Hyper-V. In this role, you will play a critical role in architecting and automating our cloud solutions, as well as ensuring seamless integration with Active Directory, Office 365, and Azure environments. Your expertise in DevOps practices, scripting, and cloud orchestration tools will be essential in optimizing our cloud infrastructure and driving efficiency.

ABOUT THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cloud Infrastructure Management: Architect, deploy, and manage cloud-based infrastructure on platforms such as AWS and Azure. Design scalable, secure, and highly available cloud solutions tailored to our business needs.
  • On-Premises Server Management: Configure, monitor, and maintain on-premises servers running Hyper-V. Ensure optimal performance, availability, and security of the server environment.
  • Active Directory Integration: Integrate cloud solutions with Active Directory, ensuring seamless user management, authentication, and access control across cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Office 365 and Azure Integration: Collaborate with teams to implement and integrate Office 365 and Azure services into our cloud infrastructure, leveraging features such as Azure AD, Exchange Online, and SharePoint Online.
  • Automation and Orchestration: Develop and implement automation solutions to streamline provisioning, configuration, and management of cloud resources. Utilize tools like PowerShell scripting, Python, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools such as AWS CloudFormation and Terraform.
  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously assess and optimize cloud infrastructure performance, security, and cost efficiency. Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement to enhance overall operational effectiveness.
  • Scripting and Tooling: Utilize Python scripting and command-line interfaces (CLIs) of AWS and other cloud platforms to develop custom automation scripts and tools to support cloud operations.
  • Configuration Management: Implement configuration management tools like Ansible to automate the deployment and configuration of cloud resources, ensuring consistency and reproducibility.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of cloud infrastructure configurations, automation workflows, and troubleshooting guides. Share knowledge and provide guidance to team members.

ABOUT THE REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Strong experience managing and maintaining on-premises servers running Hyper-V.
  • Proficiency in architecting, deploying, and managing cloud infrastructure on platforms like AWS and Azure.
  • Solid understanding of DevOps principles and experience implementing automation and orchestration solutions for cloud environments.
  • Experience integrating cloud solutions with Active Directory, Office 365, and Azure services.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash for automation and infrastructure management.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools such as AWS CloudFormation and Terraform.
  • Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible.
  • Understanding of cloud security best practices and experience implementing security controls.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in complex cloud environments.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This is a 6-month contract position, to be performed on-site at our client's Portsmouth, UK office.
