Duties
The Facilities Officer will be part of a shift based team providing a range of essential premises related services to maintain an attractive, safe, clean and welcoming learning environment. Responsibilities will include caretaking, portering, repairs and maintenance, assisting with emergencies and deliveries
- Monitor and operate building management, security and safety systems.
- Provide assistance and support as necessary to Security colleagues within the Department, generally in the following areas:-
o Reacting to alarms, incidents, emergencies and any situation where an additional staff presence is required.
o Assisting with the emergency alarm testing and premises evacuation procedures, acting as Fire Warden.
o Ensuring the premises are unlocked and locked safely, securely and in an efficient manner.
- Carry out reactive and planned maintenance duties.
- Maintain the general cleanliness and smart appearance of the College and grounds including graffiti removal and litter/debris collection.
- Provide a visible, friendly and helpful presence around the College while simultaneously identifying, reporting and monitoring day to day property damage and faults.
- Liaise and monitor Contractors to ensure they comply with the College's Code of Practice on Safe Working and Safeguarding procedures, in conjunction Facilities Management.
- Responsibility for checking and distribution of incoming orders, ordering of equipment and supplies, ensuring stock levels are checked and maintained.
- Use College vehicle to carryout post runs and deliveries between all Colleges Group sites. Vehicle cleaning and inspections.
- Logging, prioritising, carrying out and closing work requests reported via the Helpdesk.
- Responsibility for maintaining a safe and tidy condition of the onsite storage containers and bin yard areas.
- Assist with accidents and emergencies that may affect the building, grounds or the staff, students and visitors using the facilities.
- Organise furniture and equipment arrangements, particularly for individual events and provide special events assistance.
- Ordering, stock checking and replenishment of consumable materials i.e. janitorial supplies.
- Work flexibly, which may include evenings & possibly weekends.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience of operation and day to day running of buildings including knowledge of security procedures and oversight of contractors.
- Awareness and application of Health & Safety requirements relating to the facilities function.
- Practical carpentry, plumbing and or painting and decorating.
- Ability to carry out a variety of maintenance tasks.
- Experience of using Helpdesk management software to log, prioritise and carry out jobs
- Full clean driving licence.
- Ability to carry out lifting and other physical maintenance tasks including working at height.
