Technical Services Manager - Food Production Based Near Wednesbury

Salary of £38,000 - £40,000 per annum -

Hours Monday to Friday (Mon - Thurs 8am to 5.15pm With Fridays 8am - 4pm)

This fast-paced & successful Food manufacturer in the Wednesbury area is seeking a Technical Services Manager with experience within Food production, to lead and further develop a team of 4 who provide their customers with excellent customer services.

Requiring circa 5+ years experience working in a technical management role within the Food industry, the Technical Services Manager will drive delivery and continual improvement in customer services, ensuring the team champions the best practice food production standards and technical standards, taking into consideration the commercial challenges of the business.

Through your Technical Services experience, you will have gained good exposure to Retailers in a highly visible role, using your Food knowledge & communication skills to build strong, effective & trusted business relationships.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • To undertake all customer technical contact, specifications, artwork generation and customer enquiries
  • Take ownership of customer complaints and their resolution
  • Provide technical account management for the Retailers, coordinating their product range in full including product development, food safety, artwork approval and packaging change project management
  • Lead on specification updates, benchmarking and joint business plan objectives.
  • Co-ordinate customer site visits, including the review of ways of working aligned to customer codes of practice
  • Use customer feedback to drive site improvements, with the goal of increasing the year on year audit scores and leading the focus on improvements in product complaints - working with site to define & implement improvement actions
  • To actively work with site and central technical staff in the development of technical initiatives
  • Undertake routine formal/informal interviews within an established framework, involving others as required
  • Apply appropriate techniques to seek consensus through internal/external consultation to establish a 'win-win' scenario
  • Challenges the status-quo, applying a variety of creative techniques to generate and build on a range of possible options using internal and external sources to resolve problems and issues

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years experience supervising, leading or managing a Technical Services team in the Food industry
  • Are educated to degree level in a Food related discipline or holds equivalent Food industry experience
  • Are used to working in a Food Technical Services role with high visibility to Retailer clients
  • Have co-ordinated and managed customers visits, using feedback to review ways of working to drive site improvements
  • Has a positive track record of working with production and technical staff to develop & implement technical initiatives
  • Enjoys good communication skills, including the ability to engage, influence & get buy-in for change or improvement when required
  • Are comfortable leading formal & informal meetings, including the presentation of detailed information
  • Is a good problem solver, considering likely strategic impacts and understands the implications for business performance and direction
  • Develops a wide range of well-established relationships both internal and external (including specialist contacts) utilising these relationships to achieve positive business outcomes
