The Opportunity

You are an experienced Basketball coach who would relish the opportunity to lead high quality Basketball school and community sport sessions to inspire children to lead active, healthy and happy lifestyles. You'll be the main point of contact for one or more of our community hubs, and support BSF's head coaches with basketball delivery in the Forever Sport partner schools, having the responsibility of building and maintaining relationships with key school staff, parents and young people. With no two days the same in this role, you'll embrace coaching a variety of participants and sessions, alongside adapting to new opportunities where you'll learn and develop within a broader team of coaches.

Day-to-day you'll be working alongside a second coach, delivering basketball and a variety of community programmes to young people of all abilities and backgrounds. You'll be responsible for their safety, behaviour and of course, enjoyment!

As a Bristol Flyers Community Coach, you will be passionate, organised and resilient. You'll be motivated by the challenges that come with coaching in the communities of Greater Bristol and enabling some of the most deprived areas of the city to access basketball. What's important to you is the ability to part of an amazing team, and the varied nature of a job. On-going training will be offered to support you strive for excellence within the role.

Responsibilities:

  • The ability to deliver age appropriate, fun and safe basketball sessions of the highest quality.
  • To inspire others, children, school staff and colleagues with your energy, positivity, specialist subject knowledge, and desire to be the best you can possibly be.
  • To always uphold professional standards and a can-do attitude.
  • A growth mindset to challenge and develop yourself, with an openness to learn from others.
  • To continually monitor and evaluate all sessions and relationships with the aim of improving the quality, impact, and reputation of our programmes.
  • To communicate regularly and effectively with schools, co-coaches, your line manager, the operations team, and the director of programmes.
  • Establish positive working relationships with staff in schools, day in, day out.
  • To support Flyers games regularly throughout the season.
  • Establish positive relationships with children, their parents and staff in schools, day in, day out.
  • Support the broader work of Bristol Sport Foundation, which may include administration tasks and events.

The Key Requirements:

  • Experience coaching Basketball/sport in a community or school setting, with a clear passion for the game.
  • A full, clean driving license and your own transport.
  • The right to work in the UK.
  • Experience working with coaching primary school and secondary aged children.
  • A passion for inspiring children to be active, healthy and happy.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, to build successful relationships with participants, parents and coaches.
  • Excellent time management.
  • Organisational and administration abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft MS Office: Outlook, Word and Excel.

Please note: as this role involves working with young people, the successful candidate/s will require an Enhanced DBS Check.

Notes

Working hours: Full-time (37.5 hours/week), between Monday - Friday (9-5pm), plus Saturdays and some weekday evenings. Part-time hours considered (Weekdays 12.00pm - 4.30pm and evening sessions).

Contract type: Fixed term until August 31st, 2025 (extension likely, but dependent on funding).
