Credit Control Manager

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Credit Control Manager to join our dynamic finance team with experience in the liner shipping. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for overseeing the outstanding Freight and KPI Reporting, ensuring compliance with ONE Global Credit Policy by agents, identify process issues, and maintaining positive stakeholder relationships. Job Purpose

To proactively manage the Liner customer outstanding freight position in the EUA region and minimise overdues by working closely with EUA ONE offices, Third-Party Agents, and GHQ.

Primary Job Responsibilities and Measurement

  • Proactively follow-up on overdue outstanding freight with EUA ONE Offices and Third Party Agents (hereafter called agents) and work with agents (incl. Country Head, Local Sales Head and Finance Head) to ensure prompt collection.
  • Advise RHQ M&C Head and Trade of significant overdue cases and coordinate with them on those cases to resolve
  • Identify any process issues that hinders timely freight collection by agents and address these in cooperation with the Manager - F&A Process Management
  • Ensure EUA region outstandings and overdues comply with Key Performance Indicators set by GHQ and EUA BOD
  • EUA Outstanding Freight and KPI Reporting
  • Ensure compliance with ONE Global Credit Policy by agents and review / approve Liner customer credit applications in line with this policy
  • Ensure queries and reporting requirements from GHQ are followed up and completed in a timely manner by the RHQ Agency Accounting Credit Control Team and agents
  • Coordinate and verify Liner customer write-off applications submitted by agents
  • Participate in SAP AR implementation and other AR related system / process developments in EUA as Subject Matter Expert (as required)

Scope of Role

  • EUA region which includes 25 ONE Offices and 23 Third Party Agents
  • EUA region outstandings ~USD 625 million (incl. shipments in transit) of which ~ USD 60 -65M overdue

People Management and Organization:

  • Management of the EUA RHQ Credit Control Team based in London RHQ consisting of 3 FTE

Location:

  • London RHQ or other EUA ONE Office
  • Regular weekly or bi-weekly attendance of London RHQ office is required
  • Travel to EUA ONE offices or Third Party Agents as required

Challenges:

  • Large number of agents (& active customers) in the EUA region
  • Development of strong / effective relationships and close cooperation with EUA agents, GHQ and other EUA stakeholders is crucial for success in this role
  • Reliance on local agents for the effective management of outstanding freight / overdue with their local customers

Skills, Qualifications and Expertise

  • Minimum 7 years' proven experience in credit control / outstanding freight management, ideally in a multinational company at GHQ or RHQ level.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in liner shipping and solid knowledge of liner shipping is a distinct advantage.
  • Ability to manage and develop a (small sized) team.
  • Pro-active attitude and proven ability to take ownership of tasks and complete independently within given deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with GHQ / EUA stakeholders and all management levels in agents incl. Country Heads, Finance Managers and Directors.
  • Good written & oral communication skills (in English).
