Assessment Officer

£23 per hour umbrella
Contract (12 months+)
The Role:
- To assess and actively manage a caseload of housing applications from applicants who are high need with particular requirements due to their overcrowding, under-occupation, vulnerability, health, age or other needs.
- To assist these high need housing applicants with a range of other housing options including looking at private sector alternatives, exploring social housing opportunities in other areas and applying for mutual exchange if they are an existing social housing tenant with a need to move.
- Develop individual re-housing strategies to maximise the service provided to these applicants, liaising closely with advocates and other professionals providing support to them
- Carrying out home visits to fully assess circumstances and to offer the best possible housing options advice and information on rehousing prospects.
- To actively enhance rehousing prospects by taking cases to Management Panel as appropriate, and taking responsibility for initiating auto-bid, or bidding on suitable properties each advertising cycle.
The Candidate:
- Knowledge of the legislative and policy framework within the lettings service, including Part VI Housing Act 1996 as amended.
- Knowledge of Housing Options
- A demonstrably high level of analytical, verbal and numeric reasoning skills.
- Experience of engaging with colleagues, members of the public, partner agencies and stakeholders.
- Experience of dealing with members of the public, providing a high class service in a customer-focused environment.
- Experience of complex casework, working with vulnerable households and caseload management.
