IS Technical Analyst - Applications

Adecco are pleased to be recruiting for an IS Technical Analyst to join Merseyside Police Force at their Rose Hill HQ.

Key points:

  • Temp contract for 6 months initially
  • Rate £450 per day umbrella, based on 36.5 hours per week
  • Based at Rose Hill in central Liverpool with a mixture of onsite and remote working
  • 5 hours per week
  • Flexible start and finish times

The post will be in a third line technical applications team and will require experience of the following:

  • Third line incident and problem management
  • Experience of supporting on premise COTS systems and applications
  • Experience of delivering the technical aspects for new projects
  • Good understanding of VMWare, HPE storage
  • Experience of supporting and managing Interfaces and integrations for COTS systems
  • Server management including patching and Cyber security
  • Ideally have previous experience of supporting core policing applications such as STORM command and control, Niche Records Management system, Motorola Pronto, Reveal Body Worn Video

Job Purpose:

  • To support, build and manage application-based software systems.
  • To manage and maintain commercial off the shelf software applications to deliver internal user services and services to the public.
  • A summary of key requirements is provided below, however please refer to JDQ for a more detailed description of each level of responsibility.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Educated to at least HNC/HND or equivalent in Computer Science or related subject and/or have equivalent experience in managing application system software.
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of how commercial off the shelf software applications are managed and maintained within an Enterprise environment. At entry level an understanding and experience of application and interface support is required. At Senior level a thorough understanding of applications and interfaces is required.
  • At entry (Associate) level demonstrate the ability to support and administer solutions, services, and technologies, moving to building and configuration, and then design and implementation at Senior Level. Experience can include computing, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, commercial-off-the-shelf software (COTS), and open source packages and solutions, and/or virtual and cloud computing such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS).
  • Knowledge of information security, and the types of security controls used to mitigate security threats within solutions and services. At Senior Level, the ability to design, implement and operate security controls and management strategies.
  • As a minimum display an understanding of the importance of adopting and applying a modern standards approach (with guidance), progressing to work independently and guide others at a more senior level.
  • The ability to identify and highlight technical problems and assist and/or take ownership of problem resolution (senior level), consulting with specialists as appropriate to investigate patterns and trends, moving to design and implementation of technical solutions to meet business need.
  • At entry level an awareness of System Design, with a view to developing a comprehensive knowledge while in the role, characterised by medium levels of risk, impact and business or technical complexity. At Senior Level, the postholder will be expected to select appropriate design standards, methods, and tools, and ensure they are applied effectively. At Senior level, the postholder will review the system designs of others to ensure the selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources and integration of multiple systems and technology.
  • Possess an understanding of system integration processes and the associated challenges in the design, build and testing of interfaces between systems.
  • An awareness of different technologies and basic troubleshooting is expected at entry level, progressing with experience to identification and root cause diagnosis, with the ability to break down a problem into its component parts across different technological capabilities, defining the solution.
  • An awareness of scripting tools and software and the ability to write prototype code is desirable, however this will be developed while in post if joining at Associate Level.
