Merseyside (Hybrid Working)

Financial Accountant required to join a public sector organisation based in Merseyside on a full-time fixed term basis. My client is looking for an ambitious and highly motivated individual who is an experienced Financial Accountant to join their dynamic and fast-moving finance function.

As the Financial Accountant, you will report to the Senior Financial Accountant and use technical accounting knowledge to ensure that key deadlines within the accounts preparation process are met, alongside the duties below;

Key responsibilities of the Financial Accountant

  • Review financial and non-financial data related to group consolidation for internal and external reporting
  • Manage the Group consolidation process, coordinate balance sheet reconciliations and dispute resolution, and prepare financial statements.
  • Produce quarterly and full-year consolidated accounts, create and maintain detailed mappings from the department's general ledger (Open Accounts) to consolidation codes, and ensure Open Accounts hierarchies accurately reflect the structure and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure all mappings and hierarchies on Open Accounts are accurate and pass audit scrutiny, maintaining and reconciling these mappings to reflect the structure and reporting requirements
  • Support the completion of templates for accounting notes and schedules, produce extended trial balances, and ensure compliance with year-end deliverables in the auditor's client liaison schedule
  • Manage quarterly processes, ensuring accuracy and senior management sign-off within agreed timetables
  • Offer detailed accounting advice, identifying and escalating issues and risks, and validating templates, to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the financial statements and notes
  • Ensure that all primary statements and accounting notes undergo comprehensive validation checks, maintaining a complete audit trail
  • Identify ways to improve the accounts preparation process and provide consistent accounting advice to others in finance, including calculating and applying accounting adjustments per relevant standards
  • Ensure financial statements and notes comply with all relevant accounting standards and the Accounts Direction

Required skills and experience of the Financial Accountant

  • Ideally part qualified ACCA/CIMA/ACA
  • Recent, significant experience in accounts production.
  • Ability to identify and escalate risks and address issues associated with the production of financial information/the Annual Financial Statements.
  • Knowledge of VAT and other tax as it applies within the Housing sector is desirable.
  • Sound knowledge of IT systems and accounting software
  • Proven ability to use Microsoft Office, particularly Excel to an advanced level
  • Knowledge of accounting systems including understanding of the interaction of the modules, the general ledger, the structure and hierarchies built and maintained within it.
  • Self-driven, results orientated with a positive outlook and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Able to demonstrate highly developed attention to detail and able to understand, analyse and summarise complex accounting information.
  • A skilled communicator both verbally and in writing to be able to influence and engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
