Financial Controller

Axon Moore are delighted to partner with a construction business who are looking to add a Financial Controller to their team on a full time permanent basis. This market leader now employs over 2,700 people across 48 UK sites, providing multiple specialist services to the construction and FM sectors.

Prior experience in the construction industry is highly advantageous.

This is a senior finance role that will be part of the Group Finance team as well as being a key business partner to a particular Division, working with senior operational staff and managing two Operational Controllers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coach, develop and manage the performance of a small team of Operational Controllers, as well as acting as mentor/coach to the wider finance team
  • Business Partnering with Divisional Directors in ensuring accurate business reporting and good operational/cost control
  • Work with the Directors to support the preparation of divisional budgets and forecasts
  • Ensure income and costs recognised in accordance with accounting standards and ensure accrued / deferred income and costs captured correctly
  • Provision of relevant financial analysis on the profitability of each job and including updated costs to complete estimates and variance analysis of actual versus budget/forecast
  • Review income and cost postings made by team to ensure that accurate reporting of periodic financials
  • Review of Management Accounts to ensure accurate and complete
  • Provision of relevant analysis and commentary on overall financial result and on project by project basis. This includes P&L, balance sheet and cash flow statements.
  • Full ownership of relevant balance sheets, including reconciliations and supporting documentation
  • Responsible for ensuring robust reconciliations and support is in place for areas, such as revenue recognition, accrued/deferred income/costs, stock counts and relevant accruals and prepayments
  • Roll out the approved budgets and ensure the operational team have a full understanding of financial expectations
  • As part of the wider Finance management team participate in or lead business projects i.e. strategic planning, acquisitions and integration, new system implementations etc

Ideal candidate:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) however QBE will be considered providing you have relevant experience
  • Project/construction accounting experience is advantageous
  • Strong business partnering skills with the ability to engage, challenge and influence others at a senior stakeholder level through verbal and written communication
