About the role

We're looking for a mid-weight Content Designer to join our growing User Experience (UX) team at Boots.

You will work as part of the UX team alongside product designers and researchers to produce accessible, user-focused content. You see writing as designing, and language as a design material, producing copy that is succinct, simple-to-understand and user-centric. This role is essential to researching, writing and designing great user experiences for future Boots digital products and services.

Tasks:

  • Take complex design and business problems and solve them with simple language
  • Define, write, test and iterate content through our User Centred Design process, ensuring our customers get the information they need, when they need it and in the way they expect
  • Ensure user experiences balance user needs, business goals and technical feasibility
  • Team up with User Researchers, Product Designers and UX Leads on design projects from discovery to detailed design production, producing content supported by insights and rationale
  • Work within our User Centred Design process and design language, contributing to the evolution of the design system where appropriate
  • Proactively contribute user-centred design recommendations to the backlog and roadmap
  • Stay up to date with emerging technology and industry best practices, applying these to our business and ways of working
  • Upskill, educate and empower the wider UX team as our Subject Matter Expert in content design
  • Be an advocate for content design best practice within the wider organisation, collaborating with Product Management, IT, Optimisation, SEO and Copywriters to improve journeys on Boots.com and in the Boots App.

What you'll need to have

These are the essential skills or experience needed to succeed in this role.

  • 2 to 5 years of content design experience
  • Superb user-centric content design skills and experience, and good attention to detail evidenced by a portfolio or sample of work showcasing your latest projects and thinking processes
  • Experience designing and writing for WCAG accessibility standards compliance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You should be able to pitch and influence designs, articulating your approach with sound reasoning, and telling the user story in language appropriate for your audience
  • The ability to think creatively and come up with content solutions that strike a balance between user needs, business needs and technical requirements
  • To be proactive, self-motivated, collaborative and curious to learn
  • The ability to manage your time and workload across multiple projects and product teams.

It would be great if you also have

These are desirable skills or experience and are not essential, so we would welcome applications from candidates that don't match this additional criteria.

  • Working knowledge of industry standard tools, such as Figma, Sketch and Jira
  • Experience working within a design system and brand guidelines
  • Familiarity with agile and lean methodologies
  • A degree in English, journalism, communications, Human-computer interaction (HCI), interactive or multimedia design, computer science or equivalent.

Our benefits

  • Boots Retirement Savings Plan
  • Discretionary annual bonus
  • Generous employee discounts
  • Enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption leave pay and gift card for anyone expecting or adopting a child
  • Flexible benefits scheme including holiday buying, discounted gym membership, life assurance, activity passes and more.
  • Access to free, 24/7 counselling and support through TELUS Health, our Employee Assistance Programme.
