HR Advisor

Oldham Council are seeking an HR Advisor to join our team on an initial 6-month temporary contract. In this role, you will act as the first point of contact for Managers and Head Teachers for local schools, providing professional advice and support on a range of HR enquiries in line with legislation, policy, and practice.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Serve as the first point of contact for HR enquiries, offering first-line advice and support.
- Manage a professional caseload efficiently, ensuring work is organised, prioritised, and delivered.
- Advise on the implementation of various policies, including attendance improvement, grievance resolution, capability and performance management, disciplinary matters, recruitment and retention, and change management.
- Log and record casework outcomes for service evaluation and improvement.
- Offer professional advice to HR colleagues on casework such as disciplinary, capability, grievance, redundancy, and medical incapacity.
- Guide managers in the preparation of management cases for Hearings or prepare the case on behalf of school management when necessary.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Demonstrable experience in an HR advisory role.
- Knowledge of the challenges within the Public Sector, including NJC terms and conditions and Teachers Terms and Conditions, would be beneficial.
- Experience guiding managers through the TUPE transfer process.
- Good working knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practice.
- Experience working in a Trade Union environment on employee relations issues.
