Client Details

Surrey based Charity are looking to recruit an interim Finance Director. There is a strong possibility this post will become permanent.

Description

You will provide strategic leadership and plan the financial strategy for the charity and be accountable for the provision of financial and performance information to enable the CEO and Trustees maintain a viable position for the charity.

Produce timely and accurate reports for the Board of Trustees

To support the Chief Executive and Senior Management Team.

To support the Board of Trustees providing relevant information in order to assist the Trustees with making decisions.

Responsible for all financial activity and providing the relevant information and guiding financial discourse.

Will work alongside other Senior Leaders to shape the strategic direction of the charity.

Lead transformational change to support deliver of organisational strategy.

This is a small team regrowing following COVID contraction, it is all hands on deck with plans to grow the team, Hands on accounting will be required.

  • To take overall responsibility for the financial management of the Charity including: financial control, annual reports and accounts, month end closing procedures and P&L, budgeting and forecasting, business planning, VAT, cash handling, payroll, balance sheet and investment of funds.
  • Provide the vision for taking the finance function forward ensuring financial controls are sufficiently robust for growth and change, whilst safely managed.
  • Identify and maximise good financial opportunities and provide clear vision for the Charity.
  • Provide financial input into the development and articulation of business decisions, challenge the status quo, ensure decisions are well founded and, if necessary, provide a constructive counterbalance to strategic ideas.
  • Support negotiation of key commercial contracts.
  • To provide value added analysis and help develop the business both in the UK and internationally.
  • Lead ad hoc projects and initiatives for the development of the business.
  • Prepare reports for the Chief Executive and for the Trustees.
  • Monitor cash funds and investments; ensure revenue potential is maximised identifying and responding to long-term strategic risks, challenges and opportunities.
  • Manage the Charity's liquid funds to ensure maximum returns are received. Ensure the charity and trading companies have adequate cash holdings.
  • Working with the Trustees and other stakeholders; ensure that the reserves position is properly understood that an appropriate reserves policy is in place and the budgets are designed to achieve this policy.
  • Working with the Investment Committee and the Investment Managers to ensure that investment opportunities are maximised.

Profile

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
  • Minimum of 5 years accountancy experience, including payroll.
  • Charity Sector experience, including gift aid.
  • Experience in financial planning and strategy.
  • IT Literate.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with colleagues across all departments and seniority levels.
  • Able to excel at multi-tasking, organisation and time management.
  • An understanding of Gift Aid rules and Regulations.
  • The ability to understand and interpret the ethos and style of Walk the Walk in all communications and planning.
  • Demonstrable experience of meeting challenging targets.
  • Of high intellectual calibre, with the ability to communicate fluently and concisely.
  • Driven, commercially aware and able to push the boundaries and challenge the status quo.
  • Possess the personal gravitas and characteristics to influence change where necessary.
  • Excellent people management skills - an inspirational leader with the ability to lead and develop a finance team.
