The difference you will make as a Finance Assistant

The Finance Assistant is an entry level finance post, reporting to the Capital Accountant. The role is responsible for the delivery of capital accounting across the Group and is accountable for fixed asset accounting and carrying out a range of complex financial activities. This is a development role and training, and practical experience support will be provided.

About you

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Educated to degree level with an accounting and finance related degree and/or studying towards an AAT Level qualification.
  • Advanced user of MS Excel
  • Customer focused with excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work at all levels within the business.

Role Profile

  • Carry out a range of standard financial accounting activity for the Group and subsidiaries.
  • Prepare a range of journals for month end accruals and prepayments in adherence with the Group's month end timetable.
  • Responsible for the management of fixed asset registers for other tangible fixed assets and intangible assets. Update the registers for all additions, disposals and depreciation, ensuring compliance with the Group's accounting policies.
  • Responsible for preparing basic balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring correct coding and supporting documentation is available.
  • Provide support to the Assistant Capital Accountant in the preparation of schedules for housing property additions and disposals. Ensure that all invoices have been reviewed and accurate information is provided for input to the fixed asset register.
  • Provide support to the Financial Accounting team. Prepare reports and documents covering accounting transactions for management review.
  • Support the Financial Reporting team in the delivery of all external audits. Prepare capital accounting audit information as required and assist with capital accounting audit sample requests.
  • Ensure team processes and procedures are reviewed and updated as required.
  • Undertake personal development and training as necessary to keep up to date with legal, political, financial and other developments in the fields of housing and customer service.
  • Maintain financial system records including inputting and updating records to ensure the retention of accurate data.
  • Actively contribute to regular reviews of the Financial Accounting function, seeking feedback from internal and external stakeholders, to continually improve the service provision and identify efficiencies where possible.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders effectively, building constructive relationships to deliver the Financial Accounting service by creating an inclusive, supportive and professional environment.
  • Ensure that all data protection requirements are met in accordance with the Group's policy, procedures and statutory requirements.
