Commercial External Communications Lead

Purpose of Assignment:
The following job description is intended to describe the general nature of the job that may include other duties as assumed or assigned; it is not intended to be all-inclusive or limit of the duties of the position.

  • Delivery of corporate and communications activities to drive awareness of client brand and build differentiated corporate reputation among key target stakeholders across the EST-C region
  • Evolve corporate digital channel strategy, securing internal stakeholder support to deliver against the goals of the communications team
  • Co-lead affiliate communicator engagement and tailor support for maximum take up and implementation of regional communications
  • Develop relationships with target media and identify opportunities for leadership visibility/ client thought leadership or input
  • Build relationships within the region and enterprise to provide communications counsel to all parts of the organisation, including the management team
  • Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders as appropriate to deliver against communications goals.
  • Serve as a senior advisor and manager of corporate reputational issues in collaboration/alignment with communicators in markets and across CIR function as appropriate.

Key Deliverables or Milestones:

  • Maintain steady drumbeat of regional social content and newsflow to positively position client as a preferred partner and engage target external stakeholders (HCPs, patient groups, payers, policymakers, potential employees and partners).
  • Working with cross functional colleagues such as Gov Affairs and Patient Partnerships to ensure relevant activity with corporate reputational equity is supported and amplified via traditional and social media and leveraged at market level
  • Leading programme of executive visibility to positively position client / client leadership at key events, via social newsflow and in relevant media, pulling through topics and positions of strategic importance to the business.
  • Ensuring internal-external brand congruence via integrated communications across internal and digital channels, leveraging internal employee and TA/brand communications content as appropriate
  • Building relationships with EST-C communicator network to understand their capacity/capability needs, ensure alignment and maximise impact of communications across the region
  • Building relationships with CIR colleagues and relevant functions/partners across the business to surface key opportunities, share/repurpose content and secure internal stakeholder support for timely approval and delivery
  • Day to day performance management of agency partner, ensuring communications programme deliverables are timely and within budget
  • Ensuring corporate branding/materials are fit for purpose for affiliate delivery of corporate communications activity, materials, digital channel content
  • Key member of communications leadership team supporting EST comms lead, nurturing team development, culture and innovation
  • Driving operational excellence and continuous improvement within team, ensuring media monitoring platform functionality/ reporting is maximised, audience engagement, media presence and digital performance is tracked and measured and reported via team dashboard.
  • Deputise/support EST Comms Lead in relation to BCP/Pan European Crisis Team participation as appropriate

Professional Profile Skills & Experience
• 5-10 years pharma sector communications experience with strong customer focus; in multi-disciplinary, matrix and cross-cultural settings.

  • Ability to devise, plan and execute strategic communications
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Strong proven track record of delivering digital strategy /communications activity, metrics and evaluation
  • Ability to devise strategic external/corporate communications to support business goals
  • Proven compliance expertise; to understand and comply with industry laws and relevant regulations and work productively with E&C/ Legal reviewers.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of personnel to achieve shared goals.
  • Solid track record of leading project/account teams
  • Proven ability to build relationships with external stakeholders such as patient groups, media, HCPs, payers
  • Proven ability to deliver large integrated multi-stakeholder, multichannel communications programmes
  • Proven ability to influence, (appropriately) challenge and engage diverse stakeholders (including Senior stakeholders)
  • Fluent in written and verbal business English
  • Graduate or equivalent professional qualification and/or proven expertise.
  • Willing to work additional hours and/or travel as required by the business.
  • Able to perform under pressure and within tight timelines
