As an Assistant Financial Accountant, you will play a crucial role in maintaining strong financial governance and control, ensuring compliance with financial standards, and supporting the delivery of our strategic objectives.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in the production and delivery of statutory accounts, annual revenue, and capital budgets, including in-year monitoring, forecasting, and reporting.
- Provide valuable advice, support, challenge, and guidance to directorate management teams, ensuring adherence to financial controls and procedures.
- Maintain compliance with all relevant financial standards and practices, and stay updated with legislation, professional guidance, and internal or statutory requirements.
- Engage in robust monthly financial control processes to monitor service delivery, resolving any issues that arise.
- Collaborate with finance colleagues and other departments to ensure timely delivery of corporate and financial outcomes.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive financial guidance notes and ensure operations align with these guidelines.
- Support training and development initiatives within the finance department and across the broader organisation.
- Handle ad hoc reports and information requests, including responses to Freedom of Information requests.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- A-Level education or equivalent relevant experience.
- Practical experience in a similar role, preferably within a Local Authority environment.
- Part-qualified CIMA / CCAB (CIPFA, ACCA, ICAEW, ICAS, ICAI) preferred.
- Strong understanding and experience with financial controls.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
