Job Description:

To support and carry out investigations into Domestic Abuse, Honour Based Abuse and Forced Marriages.

To provide a victim-centred approach to Safeguarding of investigations and incidents involving Domestic Abuse, Honour Based Abuse and Forced Marriage. To contribute to achieving the Force vision, purpose and values

Location: Hatfield, Hertfordshire

Contract: 9 months with possible extension

Work hours: Full time - Office Hours

Salary: £19.70 per hour PAYE

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Identify and complete relevant enquiries within case investigation to support the detection and solving of crime.
  • Trace suspects, witnesses and other relevant individuals associated with a crime, to enable them to be found and questioned.
  • Interview and take statements from victims, witnesses or suspects using Achieving Best Evidence techniques, to obtain all relevant information and extract evidence to support the broader investigative work of cases.
  • Identify opportunities for the use of forensic evidence to support cases and instruct its collection where appropriate to ensure that all available evidence is obtained in the investigation of cases.
  • Gather and collate evidence for the production of a case file. Act as OIC and submit to the CPS where appropriate, ensuring high quality file standards are maintained.
  • Analyse evidence provided in various forms to support casework and make recommendations on matters such as bail, custody and the decision to charge.
  • Seize and analyse evidence relating to crime, including CCTV evidence, to ensure that all relevant evidence is obtained and analysed, and that robust conclusions can be drawn from it.
  • Search property, persons, premises and vehicles as required to obtain evidence relating to crime support casework.
  • Give evidence in court as required, to ensure that evidence collected is presented accurately and effectively when questioned, and supports the solving of crime.
  • To identify and prepare cases suitable for Domestic Violence Protection Orders and to present such cases and breaches at court.
  • To use information gathered from both the victim and officers to help with the decision making process regarding the request for temporary alarms.
  • To carry out DASH and enhanced risk assessment for Domestic Abuse cases, followed by the necessary safety planning.
  • To attend the domestic violence forum meeting in order to secure appropriate funding for projects, providing supporting evidence and reports.
  • To work with and direct other departments within the organisation to ensure that relevant information is shared, often to ensure the safe guarding of families from/against further harm.
  • To raise and report concerns identified within a family unit (where an adult or any children are at risk) to multi-agencies so that a multi-agency approach is adopted.
  • To understand the needs of the victim whilst remaining impartial and professional.
  • To attend where appropriate relevant multi agency meetings such as MARAC and Safe guarding boards.
  • To refer cases to relevant agencies and share information in compliance with information sharing protocols/ agreements namely MARAC, CSF, Adult Services, Health etc.
  • To share best practice and to broaden skills within the constabulary.
  • Investigate and support the Clare's Law application process where applicable

Essential

  • Ability to lead and own investigation relating to crime investigation, acting as officer in the case.
  • Ability to operate in a customer facing role.
  • Interviewing skills.
  • Knowledge of multi-agency risk assessment principles (MARAC and MAPPA)
  • Ability to interrogate databases to obtain information required.
  • The post holder will be expected to undertake PPE training as and when required.
  • Understanding of the Criminal Justice System.
  • Knowledge of appropriate procedures and regulations regarding the searching of properties.
  • Ability to prepare documentation for case files.
  • Have an appreciation of the DAERO principles
  • PIP qualified or prepared to work towards the qualification.
  • IDVA or CADDA qualification or equivalent
  • PIP1 is required
