The Company:
SME Specialised Construction Company with a solid history and growth plans based at the Kent Science Park near Sittingbourne, with access to a swimming pool, free parking and reduced-price gym all on-site, requires a Bookkeeper to join their small but fun, productive team.
Job Purpose:
We are seeking a Bookkeeper with experience of XERO, ideally with a background in the construction industry, preferably within an SME. The ideal candidate will be self-sufficient and capable of managing the role independently, while also being a collaborative team player when necessary.
We envisage that this role can be completed over 3-4 days a week once you are settled in, and then you can take on extra admin tasks to fill up the 5 days of work or reduce it to 3-4 days (if that suits you). Our client is willing to look at the hours to fit in with school runs etc, and maybe look at hybrid working after probation.
Key Responsibilities:

Manage bookkeeping tasks for a circa £1m Turnover Business, including purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control all on Xero Accounting Software

Ensure accurate and timely execution of all bookkeeping duties, including Xero Payroll and CIS and subcontractor payments, with an understanding of Gross status and CIS rules.

Handle Reverse Charge VAT, bank reconciliations, and VAT returns efficiently.

Job costing and allocation of costs to various ongoing projects, staying on top of cash flow for the business.

Utilize Xero for various accounting and financial reporting tasks.

Demonstrate good Excel skills to manage and analyze financial data.

Carry out accounting and admin tasks as the business needs.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper, ideally in an SME setting.
- Ability to work independently without constant supervision, yet providing a smooth transition with provided training and handover.
- Proficiency in Xero is essential.
- A knowledge of CIS rules and experience with subcontractor payments.
- Familiarity with Reverse Charge VAT and experience in conducting bank reconciliations and preparing VAT returns.
- Strong capabilities in Xero reporting and good knowledge of Excel.
