General Manager , Events, Motorsport, Membership

The most senior compensated role in the Club, sitting between a Volunteer but elected Board of Directors and a team of salaried staff.

Purpose of Role
1. To implement the Clubs strategy as agreed by the Board
2. To organise and manage the Clubs resources effectively in furtherance of that strategy.
3. To contribute to the evolution of that strategy.

Key Role Duties
1. To oversee the management and delivery of key membership benefits including

  • The development and successful execution of events and experiences for members.
  • Responsibility for the volunteer network of Regional Organisers and Register Secretaries
  • Discounts, incentives and reward packages for members. Including an expanding Retail proposition.

2. To ensure systems and processes are in place to manage retention of existing members and the attraction and onboarding of new ones.
3. To manage the employed team, and maintain an environment that allows the team to operate efficiently and effectively as a Headquarters, an Office and a welcoming Club House.
4. To work with the Finance Director to maintain prudent financial control in accordance with agreed policies and procedures
5. To work with the Head of Communications to ensure messaging to members and potential members is appropriate for all stakeholders

Qualifications, Experience & Requisite Characteristics.
1. Demonstrable success in managing and motivating teams
2. Collaborative and flexible.
3. Relevant Business & General Management experience covering at least 3 of the following
- Operations, logistics and process management.
- Procurement

  • Sales/Marketing
  • Event Management
  • Production- Retail- Commercial contracts- HR.- IT4. An enthusiasm for the Motor Sector

This is an exciting and unusual role that requires a broad range of grown up management skills that will enable the successful applicant to manage a wide range of stakeholders each with differing needs and expectations.

The ability to manage the relationships with key members of the board will be crucial, so that whilst it is a requirement to deliver the strategy outlined by the board, you will also have the gravitas to shape and evolve that strategy as you build your knowledge of the organisation and the membership.

The existing team of employed staff are well regarded and committed , your role will be to build on this existing stong base and take the organisation to the next level of effectiveness.

You will also be expected to make yourself available and be supportive of Events that are being delivered which will entail some weekend work, albeit in what is a fun environment for those participating.

The role will also require the devlopment and maintanence of relationships with a number of external partners and suppliers.

Your interest in motorsport could be in the cars, the history, the mechanics, the communities involved, or the events as a spectator.

This role will suit an accomplished , all rounder who has the combination of discipline and enthusiasm that will enable them to really add value to the 23000 membership base.

Reporting into the board , in due course and subject to structural changes the role could itself become a board role, but from the outset you will be expected to be able to function at that level.

The role is based in Gloucestershire and you will need to be able to be at HQ 3-4 days per week, certainly for the first 12-18 months from the date of appointment to be a visible leader of the team and ambassador of the organisation.
