Engineering Manager - Process Engineering

Carbon60 are proud to be partnering with Lufthansa Technik Landing Gear Services to recruit for an Engineering Manager within the Process Engineering department. Lufthansa Technik are a global leading provider of maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for the civil aviation industry.

This Engineering Manager position is on a permanent basis and has become available due to continued growth and expansion. The successful candidate will lead, manage, control and improve Lufthansa Technik Landing Gear Services (LTLGS) Process Engineering Teams. This includes Surface Technologies support, tooling design and provisioning and Manufacturing Engineering teams - to maintain compliance, improve efficiency, reduce cost, improve sustainability and maximise profitability.

A major key performance indicator will be the delivery and compliance of the Surface Technology department, Provision of Tooling and Manufacturing Engineering supporting Production to achieve Operational Goals. This includes the provision of tooling, plant and equipment, ensuring adherence to all internal and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) mandated requirements.

Role Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide Management leadership for the LTLGS Process Engineering team and support departments, communicating with Production, clients, service providers and management.
  • Liaising with the LTLGS Production Management team to provide effective professional technical support with respect to all "Processes" with important focus on Surface Technology and provide a compliant system for production to utilise.
  • Develop and control a robust Key Performance Indicator system for the "Process" side of Engineering, including the Surface Technology support department / Tooling and Manufacturing Engineering, establishing measurements and targets to improve process effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Design, develop and manage new Process, Manufacturing and Surface Technology projects, ranging from robust day to day maintenance plans though to equipment upgrade and replacement projects.
  • Ensure that all Process and Surface Technology equipment is compliant with the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and Internal limits, and where necessary taking equipment out of production. As required, ensure clear and robust communication to the Production Control and Production Management teams.
  • Select, monitor, mentor, develop and challenge a team of technical support colleagues - including but not limited to Laboratory Team, Manufacturing Engineering Team, Surface Technology Infrastructure Team, Industrial Services Team and Tooling Design and Provisioning team.
  • Performing process review and update of the company process control system (LHT Quality management software - IQMove / Pro X)
  • Identifying and implementing Continuous Improvements both locally, and with support of the wider CI team, in the wider Production environment
  • Assisting auditing of the process for compliance with documented procedures and controlling Engineering work instructions
  • Ensuring that standards and procedures are being followed within all teams under direct management
  • Communicating new and changed policies
  • Coordinating day to day execution of the processes.

Skills and Experience required:

  • The role requires a proven technical manager, an independent creative thinker, a great communicator and motivator who is organised, a great team player, commercially aware/sensitive, and a good negotiator.
  • Minimum 3 years of management experience - ideally within a highly technical / aerospace environment.
  • Proven ability to choose, mentor, develop and challenge technical colleagues to achieve the company's strategic objectives.
  • Knowledge of the Aircraft Maintenance Repair and Overhaul business - ideally involving technical 'back shop' tasking (Aircraft Surface Technology - Plating / Painting / NDT for example).
  • Ability to gather complex information from experts, distil and challenge, and then create plans and process improvements to deliver on this information.
  • Technical scope of work / technical guidance / technical business cases.
  • Experience of working within an Aerospace environment to EASA 145 standard or equivalent manufacturing/maintenance industry.
  • Ability to create, review and lead a skills and capacity planning process, including formal 145 authorisations for support functions.
  • Candidate must have excellent communication skills and have proven experience of working and communicating with a world-wide customer base.
  • Good IT skills with the use of standard Microsoft packages. Proven experience of using MRP / ERP data systems (SAP / AMOS etc.). Experience of CAD / data management and configuration systems would be beneficia
