About the Role

Base Location: Peterhead Power Station, Aberdeenshire

Salary: £41,583 - £48,296 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

As a Laboratory Technician you will play a crucial role in analysing power plant chemistry to ensure the integrity and fit-for-purpose condition of our plant. Reporting into the Station Chemist, you will perform all tasks in compliance with Thermal Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) and Safety Rules, taking on responsibilities such as Working Party Leader and Operator for designated equipment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking all aspects of plant chemistry monitoring and chemical sampling and analysis, providing fault diagnosis and technical advice across power station plant areas.
  • Ensuring analysis of samples is conducted according to laboratory schedules or as dictated by plant conditions, reporting and taking action on unexpected or adverse results.
  • Carrying out all aspects of chemical analysis on transformer oil, providing fault diagnostics and technical interpretation of results.
  • Monitoring lab consumables, instrument maintenance, and chemical/water budgets to maintain departmental budget within business targets.
  • Conducting environmental monitoring in compliance with the station's discharge consent permit.

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, we would love you to have:

  • A degree or HND in chemistry with previous experience in the power industry or a similar process industry.
  • Proficiency in analytical techniques, including gas chromatography, ion chromatography, and high-performance liquid chromatography.
  • Strong knowledge of analytical chemistry and plant operations, especially in power plant chemical control and operational knowledge of plant systems with the ability to diagnose and engineer out defects relating to plant chemistry.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to write comprehensive technical reports.
  • High regard for safety, embedding yourself in our safety culture and adhering to guidelines in everything you do is a key priority.
