Job Title: Cost Estimating Manager - Weapon Systems and Competitiveness

Salary: Circa £60,000 depending on experience

Location: Stevenage, Bristol or Bolton

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 2-3 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

The role is to work within the team of Cost Experts in the areas associated with Weapon Systems and Integration to platforms in MBDA as a group, understanding and categorising different system elements in a coherent way to allow valid comparisons and support to estimating. In addition to this, the successful candidate will help lead the implementation of Design for Competitiveness within Cost Engineering, and the greater business. This role requires the collaboration with Sales and Business Development to define and launch the competitiveness process, making use of both the cost engineering dataset and various cost engineering toolsets

More specifically, the successful candidate will have to:

  • Establish Cost Target brochures,
  • Contribute in the definition of the offer cost base,
  • Review and track the Cost Base during the complete Product life cycle to strengthen and challenge the estimate at completion process (EAC)
  • Define target prices for future products / product variants to be competitive to both domestic and export markets
  • Ensure future developments satisfy customer needs as identified through the DTVC process
  • Identify realistic export scenarios which are compatible with both the target price and the associated product development route
  • Sensitivity analysis regarding the trade-space of product capability to satisfy customer needs vs cost (both NRC and RC) to better inform development routes / company investments
  • Schedule analysis as part of sensitivity / risk assessment (inc production volumes)
  • Manage the transition from DTVC to Business Cases
  • Competitive analysis

What we're looking for from you:

  • Experience in the System or Engineering Design Areas, ideally dealing with Weapon Systems (Maritime, Land or Air).
  • Experience in Business management and assessment of Recurring and Non-Recurring costs linked with complex systems
  • Experience in high-tech professions such as defence, aeronautics or space.
  • Experience in an international environment is a plus
  • Skills & experience in Design to Costs processes and tools is also a plus.
  • Numerical literacy required, with experience of using Microsoft Office tools.
  • Good level of English, both written and spoken.
