Service Charge Officer

Butler Rose is working with one of the largest housing associations in London and the south-east in their search for a Service Charge Officer to join their team. This is a minimum three month temp role with hybrid working in London and will pay £22.24/hour to the successful candidate.

Duties:

  • The role will be dedicated to Places & Estates directorate specifically focusing on service charge projects. You will work with stakeholders across the business including the dedicated Estate Operations Manager to review historic service charge accounts.
  • Review and reconcile complex service charge accounts
  • Work on large, complex schemes related to service charges
  • Understand and manage estates, blocks, cores, and schedules within a large estate structure
  • Handle apportionments using different bases such as equal split, square footage, bedrooms, bed spaces, market rent, etc.
  • Lead on the projects & be accountable for working through a defined number of service charge accounts that have been issued a Section 20b and seeing them through to audit and delivery within the 6-month period.
  • Also review any complaints and queries from residents to service charge accounts that have already been served.
  • Support the Estate Operations Manager with engaging with residents and responding to any queries, documenting any decisions and lessons learnt.

Ideal candidate will have:

  • Significant experience of working compliantly with varying service charge regimes (variable), on large mixed tenure schemes
  • Strong experience of analysing and working through complex service charge accounts with ability to reconcile.
  • Experience of reading and understanding tenancy agreements & leases.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to explain service charge information in plain English to residents.
  • Strong IT skills, including advanced Excel.
  • An IRPM or Accounting background in service charges would also be very beneficial.

  • Have you previously worked on large, complex service charge schemes?
  • Can you explain how a large estate is structured across estates, blocks, cores, and schedules?
  • What is your approach to setting apportionments?
