JOB OVERVIEW
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Children's Sessional Counsellor / Child Psychotherapist who is qualified to Diploma level 5 or equivalent in Counselling Children and Young People, with experience of counselling within a school setting, excellent interpersonal and time management skills and the ability to work independently.
Working as a Children's Sessional Counsellor / Child Psychotherapist you will play a crucial role in providing therapeutic interventions and psychoeducation to children and young people in schools in Seven Oaks, Whitstable, Crawley & Swanley. You will manage your caseload, conduct assessments and attend meetings. You will maintain accurate and confidential records of counselling sessions and interventions whilst consulting with pastoral teams in schools, parents/care givers and statutory organisations.
This is a sessional face to face role, and as the Children's Sessional Counsellor / Child Psychotherapist you will need to be available between 9am to 3pm. You will need to be fully insured, a member of a relevant professional body, hold a DBS or be part of the update service. Please note that this position is on a sessional basis.
DUTIES
Your duties as the Children's Sessional Counsellor / Child Psychotherapist include:
- Deliver one-to-one counselling with children, young people (4 - 25yrs) and adults in schools (term time only), online and in Hubs
- Understand and ensure professional and ethical boundaries are maintained at all times
- Act on safeguarding concerns appropriately and understand and manage risk, liaising with Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Work in collaboration with the Counselling Administrator in coordinating your workload
- Travel within the area as required
- Liaise with external partners such as Social Care teams, health providers, pastoral teams, parents/caregivers when required
- Attend meetings and group supervision as required by your manager or Head of Counselling such as check in's, 1:2:1's and team meetings
- Maintain adequate records and store correctly, providing information to management and Head Office as appropriate/requested, as well as responsibility for the completion of evaluation forms, consent forms and referral forms
- Seek to be trained to a high standard by undertaking 30 hours annually of Continuing Professional Development
- Attend meetings when requested, by the safeguarding team, pastoral teams, social workers, healthcare providers
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
- Qualified to Diploma level 5 or equivalent in Counselling Children and Young People (Minimum level 4 Diploma)
- Member of a professional body
- At least 100 hours experience counselling children and 100 hours adults
- Experience of counselling children and young people
- Experience of working in a school setting
- Previous experience of dealing with safeguarding concerns
- Previous experience of working as a sessional/self-employed counsellor
- Good Interpersonal skills to work confidently and competently with the needs of the client
- Ability to work independently
- Good communication skills to liaise with staff members in the school as well as parents/caregivers of clients
- Good time management skills
- Good level of IT literacy
- An understanding of difficulties that children, young people and adults experience
- Excellent understanding of Safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures
- Willingness to travel
- Holds a current DBS
- Good communication skills
