Do you have the natural talent to calm, reassure and allow children to understand complex information?

Carterton's local Primary school at the heart of the community are looking for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their friendly team full-time from Monday to Friday starting this September. The role will involve working under the guidance of the class teacher, and supporting the pupils academically and emotionally, to help improve their independence and life skills.

Due to budget restraints, many KS1/KS2 students that meet the needs of higher SEN provisions are denied placements. They are struggling to access the mainstream education in Primary schools, this is where you come in!

The Carterton based Primary school needs YOU, to be able to adapt the task in hand (provided by the Primary Class Teacher). Where you can adapt it to the exact child needs to be able to learn.

The children are dealing with a range of emotional and physical disabilities, ranging and not limited to higher degrees of ASD, muteness, Autism, Dyslexia and motor issues.

The SEMH Teaching Assistant should be able to thrive under testing situations.

Key skills/requirements:

  • Enhanced DBS - currently holding a valid on the update service or be willing to undergo the process.
  • Pro-active demeanour, energetic, enthusiastic and caring approach to supporting the Oxfordshire based students.
  • Support on a 1:1 basis with a pupil with Autism or another with Social and Emotional Mental Health Needs (SEMH).
  • A strong background in Maths and English is ideal for this role and the Primary school are ideally looking for someone with previous experience with SEN.

Suitable for University graduates, Pre-PGCE qualified students and experienced SEMH Teaching Assistants.
