Brunswick Organic Nursery is a registered charity based in Bishopthorpe, York, which provides a productive and rewarding workplace environment for people with learning disabilities to grow and thrive in.

We build skills and confidence, support wellbeing and develop independence through offering opportunities in different work areas. These include events planning and office administration, crafts, woodwork, cooking and horticulture (growing plants at the garden nursery, growing organic fruit and vegetables, and a contract gardening service for the local community).

The Community and Events teams are at the very heart of organising events that help celebrate our Brunswick community and provide opportunities for connection and friendship. We are seeking a positive, enthusiastic and friendly Community and Events Team Leader to play a pivotal role in this aspect of the nursery.

The Community and Events Team Leader role:

Do you enjoy enabling and supporting others to learn and develop?

Can you build genuine connections with the people you work alongside?

Do love organising events and seeing others enjoy them?

Are you organised with excellent attention to detail?

In this role, you will work closely with the Community and Events Manager to lead small teams of people with learning disabilities, who have a range of skills and abilities, to organise inclusive events and talks, write newsletters, develop our bite size learning programme, and fulfil some office tasks.

The size and focus of the events vary but will include small groups walks, film nights and the Christmas party as well as events that are open to the public such as an Open Day for our charity or being part of York Unlocked.

Who are we looking for?

This role would suit someone who loves organising and running events and who is able to think about how to make these inclusive. We're seeking someone whose people skills are just as strong as their office and events skills and experience. You need excellent attention to detail, the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and be able to keep calm and focussed in the busy environment of an event taking place. You will seek to build great relationships, enabling each individual to take as much independence as possible in their work and social interactions, to think about their progression and development, to keep them safe and to help.

Skills and experience required:

  • Experience of coordinating and running events.
  • Experience of office administration / tasks.
  • Knowledge and ideally experience of building inclusion.
  • Strong IT skills using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Office 365.
  • Experience of supporting people with a range of skills and abilities.
  • Ability to motivate others and create a positive and rewarding work environment.

Please note: An enhanced DBS check will be sought if you are offered the role.

Benefits:

  • 7 weeks annual leave including Bank Holidays – pro-rata for part time.
  • Training and DBS check are fully paid.
  • Friendly and supportive team environment
