Payroll Senior or Assistant Manager opportunity, within a well established and highly regarded Accountancy firm
The firm is open to full-time or part-time and offers hybrid working. In this varied role you will be working within a small, busy team, running multiple payrolls for a wide range of clients who operate in sectors such as retail, the professions, charities, technology and agriculture. The firm run circa 85 payrolls in total, ranging from single director companies up to a hundred employees.
This is a role with real scope to further develop your existing payroll skills. You will have primary responsibility for end-to-end payroll processing for a number of clients. If appointed at Assistant Manager grade you will also be assisting and supervising junior staff within the team, on behalf of the department manager, as well as quoting for and onboarding new clients.
Responsibilities will include:
- End to end payroll processing for a range of clients
- BACs payment processing
- Direct client contact
- Payroll query resolution
- Deadline management
- Assisting & supervising junior staff (Assistant Manager grade only)
Essential skills required:
- Able to work in an accurate, diligent and methodical manner with excellent attention to detail
- Able to manage multiple priorities at the same time
- Competent in use of IT, especially MS Office (Word, Excel)
- High level understanding and practical application of all areas of end-to-end payroll (minimum 2 years for Senior, 3 years for Assistant Manager) including:
- Auto-enrolment pensions
- Statutory payments
- Holiday pay legislation
- Minimum wage legislation
- HMRC and RTI legislation
- Directors' payments
- Basic HR/employment law awareness
- Previous significant payroll administration experience and knowledge of payroll processing. Experience should be in multiple payrolls and/or payrolls of significant size/complexity.
- Good organisational skills, accuracy and attention to detail
- Clear and effective communication skills - telephone, letter and e-mail writing
- Good oral communication skills in order to speak with a wide range of internal and external contacts
- Self-motivated and able to work without supervision, whilst also working well within a team environment.
- Positive approach to problem-solving
- Confident when interacting with clients and third parties
- Flexible and adaptable
- Ability to judge and identify situations to bring to manager's attention
- Able to keep sensitive information confidential
- Full UK driving licence and own transport
Desirable skills and experience:
- Previous experience in a UK practice/professional services environment
- CIPP certificates / Foundation degree in payroll management
