GSL Education is seeking enthusiastic and reliable Cover Supervisors to work across a variety of secondary schools in Southampton starting in September 2025. This role is perfect for aspiring teachers and students studying Education, Psychology, Health & Social Care, or other related disciplines who want valuable school-based experience.
What is a Cover Supervisor?
A Cover Supervisor is responsible for delivering pre-prepared lessons in the absence of the class teacher. You don't need to plan, or mark work your role is to maintain a focused learning environment, follow lesson plans, manage behaviour, and ensure students complete set tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise lessons across different subjects using resources provided by the school
- Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies
- Encourage student engagement and provide assistance where needed
- Ensure a calm, safe, and productive learning atmosphere
- Provide feedback to teaching staff after the lesson

What We're Looking For:
- University students or recent graduates with a passion for education
- Confident communicators who can take initiative and lead a classroom
- Individuals studying or with backgrounds in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Youth Work, or Social Sciences
- People with previous experience working with children or young people (e.g., tutoring, mentoring, youth work) – though this isn't essential
- Reliable, professional, and adaptable individuals who thrive in a dynamic school environment
