Dyslexia Coordinator

We are supporting a college in Birmingham in their search for a dedicated Dyslexia Coordinator to join their Additional Learning Support Team. This role is crucial in driving excellence in the identification, assessment, and support for students with Dyslexia and related needs. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead a team of Dyslexia Tutors and agency spLD assessors, contributing significantly to student success.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Coordinate the Dyslexia Team's efforts in identifying, assessing, and supporting learners with Dyslexia.
  • Conduct Short College Assessments and manage related documentation.
  • Collaborate with Student Engagement managers to develop the service and contribute to the division's Self Assessment Report (SAR).
  • Ensure timely applications for Exam Access Arrangements and facilitate assessor staff allocation.
  • Develop and implement innovative support strategies, including short courses and group work support.
  • Lead reviews of learner support, measuring progress and outcomes.
  • Use feedback and data to improve service impact.
  • Provide Dyslexia awareness training for staff and promote reasonable adjustments in teaching.
  • Liaise with various stakeholders to meet learner and college needs.
  • Maintain accurate records and oversee the team's work in systems like eSpirALS and EBS.
  • Stay updated with industry and education developments to anticipate changes in curriculum support needs.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Appropriate qualification to teach and make recommendations for learners with learning difficulties.
  • Postgraduate/Level 7 qualification in SpLD Assessment.
  • Extensive experience in assessing and supporting students in an FE or HE environment.
  • Awareness of current issues concerning Additional Learning Support in Further and Higher Education.
  • Experience working with students with Special Educational Needs.
  • Effective communication skills and experience liaising with external agencies.
  • Proven leadership skills and a record of achieving aims, objectives, and targets.
  • Flexibility and initiative in work practices.
  • Good IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
